Purse snatchers target woman outside Semoran Blvd. Publix

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A pregnant woman who was finishing grocery shopping was attacked in a Publix parking lot on South Semoran Boulevard Tuesday.

Police said the thieves first snatched Okikma Lowery's purse and then dragged her with their vehicle as she tried to hang on.

Lowery said she got halfway to the car when another car drove up. She said within seconds, a man in the passenger side of that car reached out and grabbed her purse.

"He was hitting me and that's when the driver hit the gas and started to drag me," she told Channel 9.

Lowery said she held on tight to the purse because it had her money, phone and personal belongings inside.

According to the police report, video inside the store shows a man matching the description of the purse snatcher watching another woman inside the store. When she left the store, the man followed, but Lowery said she became the victim when the other woman stopped at an ATM to get some money before heading to the parking lot.

Lowery said she shops at the Publix all the time and never felt unsafe until now.

"You can't trust anybody now. You just have to be on your guard all the time and don't carry a purse. That's my worst nightmare now," she said.

There are no cameras in the parking lot and witnesses didn't get a license plate. Detectives said they'll have to rely on the video inside the store to possibly identify a suspect.

The car was described as a gray, four-door Toyota Corolla.  The purse snatcher was between18 to 23 years old and was wearing a yellow-striped soccer jersey with green markings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
