ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — The push to save an Altamonte Springs library is not over after dozens of residents showed up to a city meeting Thursday night to voice their support.
The library was one of several budget issues discussed as city leaders look for ways to balance the upcoming budget.
During the meeting, a council member proposed an amendment that would provide funding for the library for one more year.
The proposal comes after the city manager identified closing the library and ending the city’s popular “Red Hot & Boom” Independence Day celebration as two potential ways to cut costs.
Residents who spoke at the meeting were largely focused on keeping the library open.
The facility was nearly cut from the city budget in 2024, and supporters say they do not want to see it face another funding battle.
For now, nothing is final.
The city commission is scheduled to meet again in two weeks. A final vote on the budget is expected in October.
Until then, library supporters say they will continue pushing city leaders to keep the facility funded.
