Realtor commission settlements face objections amid shockwaves

Several groups are objecting to a series of class-action lawsuit settlements over real estate commissions, and a recent court decision will also allow the Department of Justice to get involved in the matter.

It’s a scenario likely to prolong a complicated and high-stakes legal battle that could reshape homebuying in America.

The settlements being targeted by objections include the ones signed by Anywhere Real Estate Inc. (the parent company of Coldwell Banker) for $83.5 million, RE/MAX Holdings Inc. for $55 million and Keller Williams Realty Inc. for $70 million. There are also objections to the historic $418 million National Association of Realtors class-action lawsuit settlement.
