Red, Hot & Boom: What to know before you go

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — More than 150,000 people are expected to pack Altamonte Springs’ Cranes Roost Park Monday for the annual Red, Hot & Boom outdoor concert and fireworks display.

The Altamonte Springs Police Department said it will have stringent security measures in place during the event, including a phone number posted throughout the park, which attendees can text to report suspicious activity.

“We're going to have local, state and federal agencies there, so you're going to see the law enforcement presence,” Altamonte Springs police Officer Evelyn Estevez said. “That's our goal: that everybody at the event, they look around and they see that we're there and they feel safe.”

Bags are allowed in the park, but they’ll be inspected at security checkpoints.

Tents and canopies no larger than 10 feet by 10 feet are allowed, but they must be taken down at sundown. Folding chairs are also permitted in the park.

“Personal drones, glass containers, alcohol, rolling coolers -- handheld coolers are fine, just the rolling coolers -- are not going to be allowed inside the park,” Estevez said. “Also no personal fireworks, grilling items or pets will be allowed at the park.”

Resident Kat Pagan said she’ll take her children to the event for the first time Monday.

“I think (the security measures are) good,” she said. “They're trying to make sure the community is safe, so that's what’s important.”

The event begins at 4 p.m., and the fireworks show is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m.

Free parking is available at the Altamonte Mall and surrounding areas.
