Police: Girl, 3, dies after sister, 16, puts pillow on her face to ‘quiet her down’

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A 16-year-old girl placed a pillow on the face of her 3-year-old sister Friday evening, killing her, the Altamonte Springs Police Department said.

Police said they were called at about 6 p.m. to the MainStay Suites on Raymond Avenue near East Central Parkway.

Investigators said the teenage girl was watching her toddler sister while their mother was on the phone, working in another room at their extended-stay suite.

When the mother heard the toddler shouting, she asked her older daughter to keep her quiet, police said.

Investigators said the mother told them that things had quieted down for about 10 minutes and then her teenage daughter came in carrying the unresponsive toddler.

The mother called 911 and began performing CPR on her youngest daughter, but she died at a hospital.
