Seminole County high school launches real-time weather forecast system

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Students at one Seminole County high school are learning how to better predict the weather, thanks to a new radar system.

Winter Springs High School’s Public Service Academy launched its new WeatherSTEM system on Wednesday.

The system provides students with real-time radar and radar forecasts with a high-resolution weather camera featuring a livestream.

Officials said students will be able to monitor weather safety alerts, including lightning detection and high heat monitoring, as well as tropical weather information.

The school’s athletics program and facilities departments will be able to use the system-generated information to keep students safe on campus from inclement weather.
