Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams just announced that JSO will not renew its red-light camera program when the contract expires in December.
Williams said at a Thursday budget hearing that the cameras do not reduce crashes.

There are roughly 40 cameras scattered over Jacksonville, including 12 on Beach Boulevard.
The push to eliminate the cameras has been ongoing for months.
A 2016 state report shows out of the $158 a driver is fined for a red light violation caught on camera, $75 go to the local government and $83 go to the state.
Williams said the vendor will take the cameras back when the contract is up at the end of the year.
