VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the Deltona Little League after money disappeared from its bank accounts.
The Deltona Little League first conducted its own internal investigation and found several suspicious transactions with the league's bank card. The sheriff's office is now investigating transactions dating back to last year.
WFTV reporter Blaine Tolison spoke with league board members but they wouldn't say who they think may be involved and deputies didn't provide any names in their report. League officials also would not say how much money is missing from its bank account. The investigation is still onging and no charges have been filed.
About 300 children play in the Deltona Little League and the investigation could shorten their season, league officials said.
The investigation concerns parents whose children play in the league. Kerry Ceasario's kids played in the league and now her grandkids play. She said she knows the league's budget has always been tight.
"They need equipment, stuff like that,’’ Ceasario said. “Just getting back and forth to different parks gas wise; it's a strain on everybody."
Yet parents say they are sticking by the league, despite the investigation, for the sake of their kids.
"I think it's a shame,’’ Ceasario said, “because it's all for the kids."
