St. Cloud RV residents concerned over oil spill in community

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Osceola County residents that live in the Floridian RV Resort on Boggy Creek Road said they're concerned that an oil spill is polluting their waterways.

Channel 9 Eyewitness News reporter Roy Ramos went to speak with the management and the state to find out what is being done to resolve to clean up the mess.

"It's disturbing. It's heartbreaking. It could be a beautiful community," said a resident, who did not give her name.

Residents said they were shocked after seeing gallons of black oil that spilled just feet from waterways that run through their in the St. Cloud community.

The resident said her husband spotted the spill Monday night.

"He came back and got his camera and said, 'You wouldn't believe the oil that's all over the place and it's going into the lake," she said.

Residents worry that the oil spill will not only drain into a canal that is next to it, but they worry that that oil will then drain into east Lake Toho, and not only affect the environment, but the wildlife.

"Somebody is just not thinking of the environment. They just don't care. They dumped it right on the ground instead of putting it in a container," she said.

After going to management with her concerns and getting nowhere, Ramos went to speak with the property manager, who said she was unaware of the problem and is now working with the Department of Environmental Protection to clean up the spill properly.

Roy also reached out to the D.E.P who said it hadn't received any formal complaints from residents.

But, now that it's aware of the problem, it's working with the county to clean it up as soon as possible.
