ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida department of health reported 5,539 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. This comes after officials added 5,459 new cases on Saturday.

Of the new cases reported, 1,003 were in Central Florida. Orange County added the most cases with 312.

State records show 1,909,221 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Florida since the start of the pandemic.

Health officials also reported 126 new virus-related deaths on Sunday, including eight people who were not Florida residents.

Of the new deaths reported, 26 were in Central Florida. Marion County reported seven deaths in the last 24 hours and Brevard County added five.

State records show 31,406 people have died from COVID-19 complications in Florida since the start of the pandemic.

COVID-19 vaccination efforts also continue across the state.

Officials confirmed Saturday that a total of 4,616,582 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been given out in Florida, including 1,642,800 people who have received both doses.

Records show 2,973,782 people have received the COVID-19 vaccine in the state.
