MELBOURNE, Fla. — Channel 9 got a look at surveillance video from the Melbourne Square Mall, which shows a man minutes before he shot his wife and killed a Good Samaritan on Jan. 17.
Police released video of the shooter, who was later identified as 57-year-old Jose Garcia-Rodriguez.
In the video, Garcia-Rodriguez is dressed in long pants and hat as he calmly walks through a service entrance and disappears behind a door. Moments later, another man rushes through that same door, fleeing the mall after Garcia-Rodriguez oened fire.
Calls started flooding 911 shortly after.
According to police, Garcia-Rodriguez had three handguns and a pocket full of ammunition.
He shot his wife, 33-year-old Ida Garcia-Rodriguez, who is still recovering from her injuries, and 36-year-old Leonardo Coppola, the owner and operator of Scotto Pizza.
Coppola was killed trying to protect the woman from the assault, authorities said.
Channel 9's Mel Holt called mall administration on Wednesday to find out what security changes may have been made since the fatal shooting. Officials said that to ensure safety, security measures are not discussed.
"I didn't notice anything different at all. That's probably the way it's supposed to be," said mall patron Bob Paynter. "It's just a sad situation something like that could happen anywhere."
Jose Garcia-Rodriguez shot and killed himself after killing Coppola, authorities said.
