ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The driver accused of a hit-and-run crash that killed two women in Pine Hills in 2014 accepted a plea deal Thursday.
Brye Jenkins was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Investigators said Jenkins ran a red light and slammed into a Toyota, killing Veronica Williams, 53, and her friend, Bessie Anderson, 78.
Jenkins then fled the scene, but turned himself in two weeks later.

"Your honor, there is no penalty still enough to endure the penalty my family is going through," said Anderson's nephew, Joseph Brown.
Williams' husband said no punishment can take away the pain.
"We just pray that he understands what he's done, because he didn't die in the accident. My wife did."
In court Thursday, Jenkins asked the victims' families for forgiveness.
"I ask you all to forgive me. Please know, every day I wake up, it's a burden on me," Jenkins said.
Brown said the sentence wasn’t enough to.
"We are not satisfied with the punishment that was handed down to Mr. Jenkins. In my eyes, he showed disregard not just for the life of my aunt but the life of her friend," he said.
