Suspect named in fatal shooting outside Orlando hospital; Charges yet to be filed

ORLANDO, Fla. — Investigators with the Orlando Police Department have named a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man outside an Orlando hospital in May.

Alex Mazzan was shot and killed on Lucerne Terrace as he and a friend were leaving Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they had been visiting a friend.

According to investigators, Mazzan and his friend had some type of altercation with a group of men in a car when one of the men shot Mazzan.

On Monday, investigators named 19-year-old Brixten Dyer as the suspect in the shooting death of Mazzan.

Investigators said Dyer is already being held in the Orange County Jail on a no-bond status on unrelated armed robbery and battery charges after accusations he attacked two repo men in April.

Dyer has been arrested numerous times over the past three years on charges that include fraud and grand theft as a juvenile.

Mazzan's girlfriend, Brianna Stiles Wadkins, has an array of tattoos that honor the memory of Mazzan.

"You feel like it's going to get easier, but it seems a bit harder every day," she told Channel 9. "It was senseless. They could have just kept going."

Mazzan's sister, Kelli Severt, said even though charges have yet to be filed, there's solace in Dyer's arrest.

"I cannot wait to get that phone call to know that everything is resolved and done and we can finally have more peace," she said.

Investigators said they're working with the State Attorney's Office on charges in the case.
