Evacuation over after suspicious package found on UCF campus

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Mathematical Sciences Building and the Health Services Building at the University of Central Florida were evacuated after police received reports of a suspicious package Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said the school alerted students, faculty and staff through the school's alert system.

"Someone came in the door and said, 'Everyone get out now,'" said student Matt Mitchell.

"It's a little scary," said student Gillie Santos. "I'm glad they're roping it off. Seems like it's safe and stuff."

A suited-up bomb squad investigator headed into the building to check out the package, which was found in a stairwell. Officials at the scene said the package turned out to be nothing.

About 5 p.m., authorities gave the all-clear and allowed students and faculty back into the buildings.
