Team Florida flag football team clutches win as Special Olympics USA Games wind down

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Team Florida has represented the state well so far in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, and that continued Friday with the flag football team.

It was the final day for most of the competition events, but Team Florida’s flag football team showed up ready to play.

The Florida Gators and Team Colorado both made big plays on the field, but Florida comes up clutch at the end. A deep throw by Kiondre Brown and an amazing catch near the goal set up the touchdown.

In the end, Florida won 31-25 against Colorado and took home the bronze medal.

It’s the first time this group is competing in the USA Games.

“We’re so excited to end with a bronze and end on a good note. It’s been such a long week – it’s hot in Florida, games at all hours of the day,” said Katie Hubner, head coach for Team Florida. “It’s amazing to see that we can come together and have a little bit of friendly competition and genuinely care about each other at the same time.”
