A new multi-use development slated on 10 acres of downtown Kissimmee has city leaders and local business owners excited by the prospects, and the business, it could bring.
The $65 million project is going to include townhomes, businesses, a hotel and a 400-space parking garage, to which many downtown business owners are really looking forward to.
“I think it’s great. It’s a huge opportunity,” Kissimmee florist Robert Anthony said. “Especially 400 parking spaces that the ramp is going to have, right in my backyard.”
With the city's lakefront project complete and a downtown SunRail station coming to Kissimmee, Mayor Jim Swan said there has never been a better time for development.
"Most of the residential stuff is going to be market-rate kind of activities, which is a big step up for our community and everybody seems to be very upbeat about the success of the project," Swan said.
Investments in Kissimmee by the city and the state made the area very appealing, said Marc Mariano of Mosaic Development.
"They put in all that infrastructure, they attracted SunRail, they made all of it walkable and they made it attractive," he said.
