LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a 41-year-old Lake County man was killed in a crash Friday evening.
FHP said the crash happened just before 8 p.m. on State Road 46 near Wekiva Pine Boulevard in the Sorrento area.
Ryan Shaffer, 41, was driving his GMC pickup truck westbound on SR 46 when he passed a vehicle in a no passing zone while coming around a curve, according to troopers. Investigators said Shaffer crashed into a Dodge van and a BMW SUV that were both traveling eastbound.
The collision caused Shaffer's vehicle to lose control and he was thrown from the car, FHP said. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The drivers of the Dodge and BMW suffered minor injuries.
The roadway was shut down for several hours while troopers investigated, but it has since reopened.
