Troopers: Person killed while trying to cross I-95 in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A person died Sunday while trying to walk across a stretch of Interstate 95 in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Around 8:30 p.m., troopers responded to I-95 south of Granada Boulevard near Ormond Beach.

At the scene, investigators determined that a pedestrian had been struck by a Toyota Camry on the southbound side of the interstate at mile marker 268.

Additional details released by FHP indicated that the person was walking east across I-95 when they were hit by the Toyota as it traveled in the center lane.

Troopers said the pedestrian entered into the direct path of the car and the impact caused fatal injuries.

The driver of the Camry, 25, of Michigan, was not hurt and remained at the crash scene, FHP said.

His passenger, 24, was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where she was treated for minor injuries, troopers said.
