Person walking on I-4 struck and killed by car near DeLand, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A person died early Wednesday after being struck by a car along Interstate 4 in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Shortly after midnight, troopers responded to I-4 in the area of mile marker 121 near DeLand.

They determined that a Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on the inside lane struck someone who was walking on the roadway.

Investigators said that the pedestrian was in the path of the oncoming car, walking in the same westbound lane.

Troopers said that the left front side of the Toyota collided with the person, who was wearing dark clothing.

The pedestrian died at the scene, according to FHP.

Investigators said they were still working to identify the pedestrian and figure out why that person was walking along I-4.

Neither the Toyota’s driver nor passenger, both from Bartow, was hurt.
