CENTRAL FLA. — Tropical Depression Six is slowly organizing in the Atlantic and remains on track to become a tropical storm on Sunday.
The 11 pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center had winds of 35 mph.
Tropical Depression Six formed Saturday morning and was upgraded from Invest 99L.
The system is expected to gradually strengthen and is likely to become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours.
The depression is moving slowly to the north-northeast but is expected to slowly turn southwestward early next week.
The complex is anticipated to remain out to sea with elevated surf possible near the Azores.
Elsewhere, no major activity is expected in the next 7 days.
There were some indications that tropical activity may develop by late September, but that signal is warning in the latest computer models.
We remain at the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, and additional systems are likely in the coming weeks.
