Woman's body recovered in Lake Pickett after canoe capsizes

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Divers have recovered the body of a woman who was in a canoe that capsized on Lake Pickett Saturday evening, officials said.

The victim's body was pulled from the lake shortly before noon Sunday, according to deputies. The woman, along with two other men who were rescued, haven't been identified.

Orange County Fire Rescue crews responded to the lake around 5 p.m., which is off Lake Pickett Road in east Orange County.

An Orange County sheriff's spokesperson said minutes earlier someone standing on shore heard three people out on the lake screaming for help. That witness dialed 911.

A short time later crews were able to rescue two men from the water. But search crews and divers were unable to locate the woman and suspended their search Saturday night.

The search resumed Sunday and ended when the victim was located. The medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy, deputies said.
