PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Fiesta Bowl is underway in Arizona and fans of all ages are taking part in the exciting moment for the University of Central Florida.
WFTV’s Berndt Petersen was outside the stadium Wednesday, as proud UCF fans rolled in to support the Knights.
Kenya Davis, who graduated from UCF in 2004, sent WFTV a constant stream of snapshots from the stands.
“I don’t think I can stay calm, but after traveling from Florida, I’m here…supporting the Knights and bringing home the championship,” Davis said.
Other alumni said it feels like the team has finally come full circle.
"I've had season tickets since before I graduated and having a one-loss team come to a BCS bowl game is an incredible turnaround," said UCF alumnus Chris Alianiello.
The Fiesta Bowl puts UCF in the big time, and those who used to sit in campus classrooms said they feel the difference.
“During the game it’ll be crazy,” said UCF alumnus Dan Brenner. “Hopefully we’ll make the Bears look silly.”
Current students said they are proud too.
“You can just tell that the school spirit has totally grown since my freshman year when we were not as great at football as we are now,” said UCF student Kristy Galler. “Now you feel more pride on campus and there’s a lot more students and fans at the games.”
