DELAND, Fla. — The Volusia County Animal Shelter is celebrating its first anniversary by waiving adoption fees for three days.
The promotion runs Thursday, Oct. 1, through Saturday, Oct. 3, at the shelter at 2120 E. International Speedway Blvd. in DeLand.
Since opening Oct. 1, 2025, the shelter has reported:
- More than 250 animal adoptions
- More than 250 lost pets reunited with their owners
- Nearly 200 animals transferred to rescue partners
- More than 70 animals placed in foster care
- More than 130 animals sheltered during investigations or emergencies involving their owners
“This first year has shown just how important this shelter is to both the animals we serve and our community,” Animal Services Director Angela Miedema said.
The shelter serves unincorporated Volusia County and the cities of Oak Hill and Pierson. It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Residents can view animals currently available for adoption before visiting the shelter.
