Daytona Beach police prepare for busy Memorial Day weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Daytona Beach police chief said he is preparing for a busy weekend.

Chief Jakari Young said there are many events planned for the weekend, including a concert at the speedway and another at the bandshell.

There are also several high school graduations.

Much of the department’s attention is on Orlando Invades Daytona gathering.

Two people were shot during the pop-up event in 2020.

“This is the first year that we’ve actually brought in the entire agency, so we actually ended up cancelling all days off,” Young said.
