Firefighters return two stranded manatees to the water at Smyrna Dunes Park

Beachgoers initially reported seeing the stranded animals along the shoreline around 2 p.m. Tuesday

Smyrna Dunes Park Manatee Rescue Two manatees stranded along the shoreline at Smyrna Dunes Park were safely returned to the water Tuesday night with help from New Smyrna Beach firefighters.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Two manatees stranded along the shoreline at Smyrna Dunes Park were safely returned to the water Tuesday night, thanks to the quick and caring efforts of New Smyrna Beach firefighters.

Beachgoers first reported the beached animals around 2 p.m., according to the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department. Crews were notified later and arrived at the park around 10:30 p.m.

As the tide came in, firefighters happily helped the manatees return to the water. Both animals swam off happily, the department shared.
