All clear: Lockdown lifted at Volusia County middle school after ‘suspicious’ call, deputies say

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Heritage Middle School has been cleared. No weapons were found and no one was injured, deputies said.

Deputies responded to Heritage Middle School Friday morning after reports of a suspicious call.

Deputies are clearing Heritage Middle School now after a suspicious call. It’s in progress as we speak, so please stand by for details. There are no reports of injuries.

Volusia Schools later said that deputies received a tip there someone possibly brought a weapon on campus, which prompted a school lockdown.

Heritage Middle is in a lockdown. VCSO got a tip there could be a weapon on campus. Deputies are at the school right now, no weapon has been found at this time. There have not been any reports of injuries, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood later reported that there was no shooting or reports of shots fired.
