The Wheel at ICON Park reopens more than a month after power failure

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Wheel at ICON Park is back open more than a month after passengers had to be rescued from the ride after a power failure.

Officials said all components from the ride have been inspected and the parts that were impacted were replaced, including new safeguards to prevent future power failures.

“We’d like to thank the technical team and our outside engineering partners who have worked hundreds of additional hours to help complete repairs and the meticulous inspections required by our internal safety protocols,” said Chris Jaskiewicz, ICON Park’s President and CEO.

The attraction had been closed since the power failure on New Year’s Eve.

Firefighters used cranes to reach the 62 people trapped inside 20 different pods.

ICON Park officials said the ride has been running successfully for a few days, and passed all necessary inspections to resume operations.
