Windermere aims to build citywide bike, pedestrian trail if county transportation tax passes

A proposed penny sales tax hike in Orange County may fund a path for cyclists, pedestrians and golf cart drivers throughout the town of Windermere.

It is one of 10 municipalities with a draft list of projects to pursue if Orange County’s proposed penny sales tax hike for transportation needs is approved by voters in November.

The top three bike/pedestrian projects prioritized by Windermere all are focused on the creation of the Windermere Ward Trail.

The trail entails creating sections of multimodal paths that connect with existing sidewalks and crosswalks.

The end goal is to build a network of paths that let people access local government facilities, recreational spots, businesses and more by walking, biking or even driving a golf cart, Town Manager Robert Smith said during a Ward Trail Design Workshop meeting in April.
