APOPKA, Fla. — A teenage boy was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Orange County, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.
Nathaniel Hooks, 15, was trying to cross Dixie Highway near Main Street in Apopka on Wednesday when he was hit by Silvia Olvera, troopers said.
Hooks was thrown on the hood of Olvera’s Kia and then onto the ground.
According to FHP’s report, Olvera got out of the car, then got back in and fled the scene.
She had three young children inside the car.
Another driver who witnesses the crash followed Olvera and called police.
Apopka police officers were able to detain Olvera until she was arrested by troopers.
She was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injuries.
Hooks died at Arnold Palmer hospital overnight Wednesday.
The charge is expected to be upgraded to leaving the scene of a deadly crash.
