Woman says she was examined by man pretending to be doctor

Formal charges have been filed against Wellington Liranzo who is charged with practicing medicine without a license. Liranzo was arrested last month.

On Monday, Kathi Belich spoke with a woman who said Liranzo pretended to be her doctor for several years.

The woman is one of 10 patients who told investigators they were examined by Liranzo.

Justine Otero said she was upset when she learned that the man she called Dr. Liranzo, the man she thought was her gynecologist, was not licensed to practice medicine.

"Why would you do that to people who are trusting you not only with their health but with their lives. I just feel really violated and it's hard for me now to trust any doctors with just the thought of that in my head," said Otero.

The 30-year-old Otero said she went to Prime Care Health Centers from the time she was 16 because it is where her mother and aunt went.

She said she stopped going years ago because she got an uncaring vibe from Liranzo.

Otero said she was examined only by Liranzo. She said she was never treated by Dr. Emmanuel Nau who runs the clinic.

Documents show Nau and Liranzo told investigators Liranzo was only doing administrative work.

Otero's aunt, Milagros Rosario, told investigators Liranzo also gave her gynecological exams, and another patient told Channel 9's Kathi Belich that she is now being treated with counseling and medication for post-traumatic stress disorder after finding out the man she thought was a doctor is not a doctor.

Liranzo has filed a written not-guilty plea with the court which will become official next Tuesday when he is arraigned in court.

Belich checked on Nau's license and found that the Board of Medicine website indicates it's clear and active and there is no discipline on file.
