Investigation underway in Cocoa Beach after woman's body found in gutter

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — A woman's body was discovered lying in a gutter at a Cocoa Beach community Thursday morning, according to police.

Police said the woman did not die of natural causes.

The woman in her 20s was found on the side of the road lying in the gutter on Rose Drive just before 7 a.m.

"We didn't know what it was at first, [and] then a neighbor told us they thought it was a young person's dead body and we thought, 'Why here?' There are not at of young people that live here except for kids and their families," said resident John Stroud.

Investigators said they do not know how the woman was killed but said there were signs of trauma to her body.

Many residents can’t help but wonder if the victim lived in their community.

“They don’t know who she is, or where she came from. It’s a shame,” said neighbor Russell Myers. “It’s crazy. It’s usually a quiet neighborhood.”

Her name has not been released.
