Woman arrested after allegedly making bomb joke at Universal Studios

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A mother spent the night in the Orange County Jail because a joke about a bomb got her hauled out of Universal Studios in handcuffs on Tuesday.

As 45-year-old Sherry Romello left the jail Wednesady night, she was still dressed in her blue sequin top she wore when she was arrested while trying to enter Universal Studios.

"I've learned a lesson," said Romello.

The tourist from Vienna, Va. learned the hard way that joking about a bomb at Universal Studios can land you behind bars.

According to reports, Romello entered the park Tuesday night, but when she went through security she closed her purse before the security officer could look inside.

Reports state that when the security guard asked what was in her bag she said, "There's a bomb in my bag," and smiled.

"Of course, I did not mean it. I did not have anything, this is the size of my purse, and the comment I made was not that I had a bomb in my purse," said Romello, as she displayed the small purse she was carrying.

While Romello might have thought it was a joke, the security officials at Universal Studios didn't -- they called police.

Romello was booked into the Orange County Jail on $10,000 bail. She was released from jail at 10:30 Wednesday night.

"The way that it was handled was very poorly handled, in my opinion," Romello said.

A spokesperson from Universal said, "We take the safety of our guests very seriously and we react as the situation requires. Once the police are involved, it becomes a police matter."
