You’ve heard of online dating, what about online weddings? Seminole County is taking steps to make them a reality.

Grant Maloy, the Seminole County clerk of courts, said COVID-19 pushed his department to speed up making the online service available.

"The technology was going this way anyhow and this is a logical step to provide services to citizens and make it easier for them in that process, so it was really for both reasons, social distancing and as well as advancing the office," Maloy said.

Couples must fill out the application on the clerk's site and they must send the clerk their driver's licenses to make sure they are valid.

And you don't have to live in Seminole County to apply.

"This is good for the entire state of Florida. If people are having problems in Orange County or other counties, they can apply for a marriage license right here in Seminole County,” said Meghan Landry, team lead civil call center license division.

Maloy said the department will soon take the plunge in performing online weddings as well for those looking to get hitched in the comfort of their own home.
