ORLANDO, Fla.,None — Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that a Seminole Co. sheriff's deputy was killed in a Monday afternoon accident on Maitland Boulevard at Gateway Drive.
The officer was identified as Deputy Matt Miller, 53, of Seminole County.
The accident occurred after 1 p.m. just past the RDV Sportsplex, when a Volkswagen Jetta overturned onto the deputy's motorcycle.
The driver of the Jetta remains in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Looks of grief and horror were written on the faces of deputies, troopers and neighbors as they saw the crash aftermath for the first time.
Neighbors who live down the street couldn't help but apologize for one of the worst crashes they've seen at this intersection.
The crash was so bad, it took crews a while to separate the deputy's motorcycle from the vehicle.
"I saw so many police officers so I figured, I told my mom, 'Something really horrible has happened,'" witness Reta Jackson said.
