Plane Crashes Near Ormond Beach Airport

ORMOND BEACH, Fla.,None — A small plane crashed in a wooded area near Ormond Beach Municipal Airport just before noon Sunday, injuring 2 people.

According to investigators, a student pilot and an instructor were in a Piper PA28 when the plane lost power for some reason. The two people in the plane survived the crash, but both suffered serious injuries. Investigators said the two were practicing ‘touch and go’ landings at the time of the crash.

The plane was registered to a flight school called Euro American School of Aviation.

Sunday’s crash was the latest in a series of recent accidents in Central Florida involving training flights. Last month, a student pilot and her older brother died when their Cessna crashed in Brevard County. In February, two men died in Volusia County when their single engine plane crashed in the ocean during a training flight. And in November, a Florida Institute of Technology plane crashed at Palm Beach International Airport. The crash killed 4 people including a flight instructor and two students.

The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the crash.
