Republican Keith Truenow wins Florida House District 31

Young voter turnout surges

Republican Keith Truenow defeated Democrat Crissy Stile for a seat in the Florida House to represent District 31.

State House District 31 covers a swath of northwest Orange County and northern Lake, including the cities of Mount Dora, Eustis and Tavares.

This district has been a Republican stronghold and represented most recently by three-term representative Jennifer Sullivan, who decided not to run for re-election.

Democratic candidate Stile is a popular bookstore owner in Mount Dora, Barrel of Books & Games. She is a Stetston University graduate with an undergraduate degree in accounting and an MBA. She has also served as an at-large member of the Mount Dora City Council.

Stile’s priorities, according to her campaign website, included providing jobs and good wages; supporting quality education with well paid teachers; ensuring safe care facilities for seniors; protecting the environment; and adding to area amenities with parks and green spaces.

Truenow is the founder of Lake Jem Farms in Mount Dora and a local farmer and rancher. Truenow’s business focuses on producing sod sold throughout the state, according to his campaign website.

Truenow joined the United States Air Force before returning to Lake County to work in the agri-business. He serves on the Harris Chain of Lakes Restoration Council, according to his site.

Truenow’s campaign site says he embraces “conservative values,” including the plans of President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis to get our nation healthy and back to work. He also supports protecting the nation’s borders, opposes tax increases, backs the state’s agriculture industry and defends Second Amendment rights, according to his site.
