Trump vows to make sure Texas recovery from Hurricane Harvey is done right

Getting a first hand look at some of the storm damage from Hurricane Harvey, President Donald Trump on Tuesday tried to assure Texans that state and federal officials are doing all they can to help the Lone Star State deal with the aftermath of a tropical system that continued to drop record amounts of rain on the Texas Gulf Coast.

“We want to do it better than ever before,” Mr. Trump said of the recovery efforts at a briefing with top federal and state officials. “We want to be looked at in five years, and ten years from now as, this is the way to do it.”

“This was of epic proportion; nobody has ever seen anything like this,” the President added.

Before flying to the state capital of Austin, Mr. Trump briefly addressed a crowd outside of a fire station.

“Texas can handle anything,” the President said to cheers.

“I just want to say we love you, you are special, we are here to take care, it’s going well,” Mr. Trump added.

While rain was letting up in some areas along the Gulf Coast, storms increased – and brought new flooding especially in the Galveston area.

But at the same time, there were examples of areas where the water levels went down.
