Residents Angry Over Overflowing Dumpsters

PINE HILLS, Fla.,None — Residents at the Royal Place Apartments in Pine Hills say it’s been almost a week since their Dumpster has been emptied. Now, the bin is overflowing and it’s starting to smell and attract bugs. Some of the residents are concerned about their health and for the safety of their children who play in the area.

Residents called WFTV asking for help.

The problem isn’t just the one bin; the complex has three. One is filled to the top and the other two are overflowing. Cadeighja Jones has only been living in the apartments for three months, and she said this is the second time the garbage has piled up.

“It’s disgusting. Really, I’m ready to move out to be honest,” said Jones.

Code enforcement officers said they usually don’t go out for calls like this because by the time they get there it’s already cleaned up. However, they told WFTV that if it’s not cleaned up within 15 days they’ll hire someone themselves and then bill the apartment complex's owner.

Owner Kenneth Henry admitted that he hasn’t paid the bill because he’s struggling.

“I’m not trying to be a slumlord. It just is what it is right now,” said Henry.

Henry is already in trouble with code enforcement for not maintaining the community pool. The agency said it could be forced to put a lien on the property.
