ORLANDO, Fla. — A problem-plagued Orlando apartment complex has hit a new low.
Thursday, code enforcement condemned some units, leaving residents homeless.
WFTV learned that the complex owner, PDQ Coolidge Formad, is facing $1 million in code enforcement fines at the complex.
The company was supposed to redevelop the rundown Lakeside Village Apartments on Mercy Drive.
The apartments were flooded, so code enforcement said, they had no choice but to condemn the units.
The apartment owner had big plans before bankruptcy. Now, this is the latest problem for this property owner and these residents.
Thursday afternoon, City of Orlando Code Enforcement was back at the Lakeside Village Apartments on Mercy Drive to condemn three units.
Cora Dortch's home was one of them.
"My furniture is soaked. My children's clothes are wet. The roof is falling down," said Dortch.
Dortch's problem is only the latest in a series of violations filed against the owner of the property, PDQ Coolidge Formad.
An attorney for the property owner told WFTV's Melonie Holt that the flooding in Dortch's apartment and two others was the result of vandalism.
They said someone entered a vacant apartment to steal metal.
But there are other complaints, like water intrusion and the non-permitted repairs of stairwells.
There's also a notice of a violation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
That complaint is related to a lift station failure that allowed sewage into the storm water system near Lake Lawne on two occasions.
Code Enforcement told WFTV that there was another discharge of sewage on Tuesday.
PDQ Coolidge Formad is currently under bankruptcy protection.
The company's attorney told WFTV on Thursday that the owners plan is to fix the issues with this complex, and the company's other Orlando properties.
It comes too late for Dortch, who's found a new place to live.
"The rest of these people have to live out here. I'm not just looking out for myself, I'm looking out for the rest of these people," said Dortch.
WFTV was told that residents in the three impacted units have been given their deposits back plus two month's rent.
