Deputies said they were forced to fire on the suspect when he used his car to try and run them down on north Orange Blossom Trail, near Colonial Drive.
WFTV obtained video from deputies of a robbery that started the whole investigation.
Investigators said 30-year-old Michael Jenkins and two other suspects stormed the pain and wellness clinic in Winter Park last week. It's a business with a lot of cash in the drawer and the video shows that Jenkins wasn't afraid to kick people around.
"The concern was the level of violence they showed there to the people frequenting the clinic," said Sgt. Jon Askins,Winter Park Police.
Winter Park police said they were able to pull a license plate from the getaway car and Thursday night it led them, Orange County sheriff's deputies, U.S. Marshals and the FDLE to Jenkins.
All of the departments had him cornered in his vehicle, but they said he wasn't going down without a fight.
"It appears the individual was in a vehicle, refused to stop and began to ram law enforcement vehicles involved," said Sheriff Jerry Demings.
Initially, investigators on the scene told WFTV that Jenkins also waved a gun at deputies, but authorities aren't saying if that was the case.
Deputies said they aren't releasing information on how many shots were fired or exactly how they tracked down Jenkins. Because of the shooting, three sheriff's deputies are on administrative duty, which is standard practice.
Winter Park police are still looking for two more suspects, who they said may be just as violent as Jenkins.
"To me, if you go in with a gun and victimize the people inside, that showcases violence," said Askins.
Typically, FDLE investigates officer involved shootings, but since they were involved in this particular shooting, officials said it now falls to Orlando police to investigate, since this occurred in their jurisdiction.
