Son Wants More Charges Filed In Murder Case

SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. — The family of an elderly woman found dead in South Daytona says fraud charges aren't enough. The victim's son, Fred Roberts, told WFTV Thursday he wants the prime suspect, Kimberly Smith, to be charged with something more serious.

Roberts doesn't want Smith getting out of jail, even though the judge set a fairly low bond. Smith could walk out of the jail if she posts bond and the victim's family worries that could happen before the State Attorney's Office files more serious charges.

Smith was emotionless during her first appearance before a judge Thursday afternoon at the Volusia County Branch Jail. Prosecutors say Smith used 78-year-old Goldie Robinson's credit cards after Robinson was found dead last summer.

Roberts was in the courtroom Thursday and he thinks Smith played a role in his mother's murder.

"I just wanted to look at her in the eyes and she turned and looked at me, seen me sitting there," Roberts said.

Goldie Robinson and Arthur Sheldon were both found dead near Smith's home. Robinson was found buried in a shallow grave and Sheldon's body was found a few feet away.

Smith was the so-called caretaker for both victims.

"I can't imagine what my mom went through. This woman is soft spoken. She gets next to you, she's a manipulator and she's good at it," Roberts said.

So far, no one has been charged with either murder. The State Attorney's Office won't say if it will bring murder charges and won't give a timeline on when that could happen.

"My mom was a loving, caring person. She would have given you anything if you needed it. Why the end results? I just don't understand it," he said.

Smith is locked in the jail with a more than $30,000 bond.
