COCOA, Fla. — A former supervisor at the Department of Juvenile Justice plead guilty to, and was sentenced for stealing her co-workers' identities.
Lillie Kent was arrested months ago, but the Brevard County Sheriff's Office only just released the information about it.
The Sheriff's Office said Kent used her job at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Brevard County to access her co-workers' personal information through a database.
Then, she used that information to apply for cash advance payday loans, sending the money to a bank account she had set up.
Deputies said Kent stole at least $5,000 from her co-workers, who soon started receiving phone calls from collection agencies about the loans.
Kent was fired from her job, and she plead guilty two weeks ago to identity theft.
She was arrested in September, but the Brevard County Sheriff's Office did not send out a press release about her arrest, despite Eyewitness News' attempts to find out what happened.
Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office told Eyewitness News that the information should have been distributed in September and was simply never sent out.
The database Kent used to access her co-workers' information is no longer available for everyone at the agency to see.
