Student Body President Earns More Than Some Mayors

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — Eyewitness News found out the University of Central Florida Student Government Association President makes more than some elected officials in our area.

Mike Kilbride is UCF's newest student body president. He is being paid nearly $20,000 per year, paid for by student fees.

WFTV called other schools and found out the pay scale is much different. The Student Government Association President at the University of South Florida makes more than $22,000 per year. However, the equivalent position at the University of Florida pays $8,995. Florida State University pays its student body president $7,794, and the University of Miami compensates its student government head with 50% off the cost of tuition.

To put the pay scale into perspective, the Mayor of Deltona, one of Central Florida's biggest cities, only makes 12,000 per year.

"It is a job that takes 40, I would say more than 40-hours a week of my time meeting with individuals and meeting with community leaders and students as to how we best represent the student body here at UCF," said Mike Kilbride, UCF SGA President.

Kilbride says his position as student body president is like any other job. He says he is using his salary to help pay for his tuition.
