Tenants With No Power Use Pool Water To Flush Toilets

KISSIMMEE, Fla.,None — Dozens of residents who live in a Kissimmee Inn have no power or water Thursday afternoon. The tenants of the CareFree Inn along Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway said they lost the services, even though they were paying rent.

Now, the CareFree Inn is anything but carefree. Dozens of residents said they've been left stranded. In fact, the water from the pool is the only way they can flush toilets in their rooms.

With garbage cans as buckets, the remaining residents of the CareFree Inn are making their bathroom's work anyway possible. Inside the rooms it's dark and hot.

"We have nothing. We have no power, no electric. My foods going bad in the refrigerator, no water," resident Bobby Rojas said.

Rojas said he paid two weeks in advance and can't afford to find another place to live until he gets a new check from his job. He's loading up belongings to go to work so they're not stolen while he's gone.

"He admitted it on the phone to everybody that he knew this was going to happen, but he took our money and smiled in our face and left," Rojas said.

Residents said several families live at the inn, and kids get on a school bus out front each day. But it appears their only home is closing down. They said managers packed up and simply left Wednesday night, leaving residents to fend for themselves.

"They feel abandoned, they're angry. We just want someone to step forward and give us our money back or do something," CareFree resident Margaret Pietropaula said.

WFTV tried to call management about the situation, but didn't get a response.

Residents said they were trying to make the best of the situation. Wednesday night, they had a large cook out for one simple reason, to cook all of their perishable foods before it spoils.

The Kissimmee Utility Authority said the inn owes more than $50,000 in unpaid bills.
