A frightening bridge collapse at one of the most heavily trafficked intersections in the country, where 75 and 24 meet. Truly miraculous that no one was seriously injured. @myTDOT is one the scene assessing cause and traffic solutions pic.twitter.com/CFrkPNZVJL

The road is described as one of the area's most traveled intersections and is expected to remain closed most of the day, the Times Free Press reported.
Work had been planned for the interchange that was scheduled to start this summer. It would have straightened interchanges, the newspaper reported.
A Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson said they're investigating what effect today's collapse might have on the construction plan, the Times Free Press reported.
Tennessee officials inspected bridges in 2017 after Interstate 85 collapsed in Atlanta, following a fire that broke out under the span, but the Tennessee inspections focused on making sure items were not stored under elevated highways, according to the Times Free Press.
