Teen girl found safe after man kidnaps her, stabs 4 members of her family, police say

COWETA COUNTY, GA. — Police in Newnan, Georgia, said a man abducted a teenager Friday night after stabbing four members of her family at a laundromat.

City of Newnan police said Adrian J. Garcia-Zamarron, 22, walked into the business and had a violent altercation with the people inside before abducting Amanda Ornelas, 15, WSB reported.

Update 1:45 p.m. EDT Aug. 25: Police said members of the Ornelas family worked as cleaners at the laundromat. Her aunt, uncle and two cousins were stabbed. All are being treated at Grady Memorial hospital and all are stable, police said.

The GBI said Saturday that Ornelas was found safe around 10:45 a.m. in Monroe County.

Monroe County police had earlier Saturday located Garcia-Zamarron's car and searched the area. The two were found walking down a road and Garcia-Zamarron was taken into custody without incident.

Ornelas has been taken to the hospital as a precaution but police said she appeared unharmed.

Kelly Dunn, who lives across from the laundromat where Ornelas was taken told WSB she heard a woman scream Friday night.

“All I could see was just blood and I walked over there this morning and there was blood all over the door and the door handle,” Dunn said. ‘It was pretty bad.”

Dunn says she's relieved the teen is safe but disturbed this happened in her community.

“That is scary to think that someone around here could snatch somebody up.” Dunn said. “That is just scary.”

“We try to keep a safe place for people to come and do their laundry,” said the laundromat owner, Miranda Shugg. “It is very disturbing that it happened at our property.”

Update 1:11 p.m. EDT Aug. 25: 15-year-old Amanda Ornelas has been found and is safe after being abducted by a man who also stabbed four of her family members in Newnan, the GBI said.

Garzia-Zamarron's white BMW convertible was recovered on I-75 by Monroe County deputies earlier Saturday morning, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. They also recovered his cell phone.

Deputies said they found both of them walking along a road in the area near where the vehicle was found, leading to Garzia-Zamarron’s arrest, Newnan police said in a news release.

Garcia-Zamarron is accused of stabbing four of Ornelas’ family members during the incident Friday night, the release said.

Newnan police said the stabbing victims are Ornelas’ uncle, Horaico Montalvo, her aunt, Eva Montalvo, and her cousins Jamacia Tobar, 27, and Vanessa Montalvo, 24. They remain in Grady Memorial Hosptial in stable condition.

WSB reported the laundromat's manager said the family was helping clean up the laundromat after hours.

Garcia-Zamarron remains in the Monroe County Jail and is awaiting transport back to Coweta County, police said.

On Saturday morning, police issued a Levi's Call and an Amber Alert for Ornelas.

Police said Garcia-Zamarron left the Newnan area with Ornelas in a white convertible, possibly a BMW.

Ornelas is described as a Hispanic female, who is 5-feet-2-inches tall, weighs 120 pounds and has black hair.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans, flip-flips and a black long-sleeve shirt. The shirt has the phrase “bad habit” printed in white letters on the front.

Police said Garcia-Zamarron should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police are working to get warrants for aggravated assault and kidnapping.
