MEMPHIS — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Shanynthia Gardner has been charged in the stabbing death of four of her children.
Sheriff Bill Oldham told WHBQ Gardner killed her three daughters, who ranged in age from six months old to less than four-years-old and one of her sons, who was four-and-a -half years old. The sheriff confirmed Gardner's seven-year-old son was able to escape.
Gardner is charged with four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of child abuse, and four counts of aggravated child abuse and neglect.
On Friday, deputies responded to a call at a Memphis apartment complex and discovered the bodies of the four children.
Gardner, who remained at the scene of the crime, was taken into custody.
