HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Authorities are asking for help finding the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a 16-year-old boy who was running from a dog on Tuesday night.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the boy, identified as Omar Ghawtah, was being chased by a dog in the 14100 block of Alief Clodine when he ran into the roadway around 10:50 p.m. He was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, according to the sheriff.
“Ghawtah was deceased at the scene,” Gonzalez said. “The (unknown) driver of the truck did not stop and render assistance and fled the scene eastbound on Alief Clodine.”
The sheriff described the truck as a 2017-2014 white Chevrolet Silverado.
“The case remains under investigation,” Gonzalez said.
