According to the Lafayette Police Department, the shooting occurred at about 4:20 a.m. EDT at the Romney Meadows apartment complex in Lafayette, WLFI-TV reported.

Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello confirmed that both people who were fatally shot were men, but has not released official identifications pending next-of-kin notification, according to the television station. Costello said autopsies will be performed on Monday.

A resident sitting on her front porch near the shooting told the Journal & Courier of Lafayette that she heard gunshots and saw the aftermath of the shooting.

“It was a nice party. Everybody got along,” the resident, who was not identified, told the newspaper. “It was six to eight hours into the party and everybody was getting along.”

Police did not release any information about what led to the shooting or whether any suspects were in custody, the Journal & Courier reported.

The shooting is still under investigation, WISH-TV reported. The homicides are the first in Lafayette since Aug. 31, 2021, according to the Journal & Courier.
