In regards to reopening public pools, the CDC advised local health officials to make their own decisions in accordance with CDC guidelines.

“Operators of public aquatic venues can consult with local officials to determine if and how to implement these considerations while adjusting them to meet the unique needs and circumstances of the local jurisdiction. Their implementation should also be informed by what is feasible, practical, and acceptable," the CDC said.

The guidelines, applicable to public and private pools, say people should wear cloth face coverings around the pool but not in the water.

Pool-goers should wash their hands frequently and cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing.

Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, who may have been exposed to the virus or who has exhibited symptoms should not visit pools where there are other people. Those people should quarantine for 14 days.
